Fashion watchmaker Seculus to display Masterline collection at Baselworld
As we continue to take a look at the watches set to appear at next month's Baselworld watch trade show in Switzerland, we have come across Seculus, a modest watch company from the Swiss country, and its "Seculus" collection. This sporty watch displays a large 46-milimeter case, three small counters, and windows for the date and month.
The watch dial is available in black, white, blue and brown, and it comes with a leather strap. Made out of stainless steel, this scratch-resistant time piece can sustain water pressure of up to 100 meters. It features Ronda movement and comes in at the sub-$1000 price range.
Distinctive design for watch named after Greek goddess Galatea
In mythology lore, the sea nymph Galatea was so distraught by the murder of her lover that she used his blood to form a river. And that is the name that was used to inspire this watch from Switzerland-based Sultana. The emphatic white splashes and red hour markers create a design that even the Greek gods would probably find eye-catching. The watch band is made of stainless steel, the piece features automatic movement, and it is water resistant up to 30 meters.
Available in two different versions, design options include a black face with white Arabic numbers (pictured), or a white face with Roman numerals. Sultana's unique watch repertoire includes the "Posseidon Collection," "Cassandra," and "Nereus," each one representing a different creature from Greek mythology. The Galatea adds to that portfolio, although its namesake is a rather obscure mythological figure.
Swiss watch from Jean d'Eve promises "new age in the reading of time"
This is certainly not your grandmother's wristwatch. The unique concept at play in this time piece is the four separate dials, each representing one eighth of a day. Each hand keeps track of time for three hours, then it moves on to the next dial for the following three hours, and so on. Jean d'Eve calls it a "relay race" of time counting that is much more interactive than the typical clock face.
In the center of the watch is a standard minutes counter, though it looks quite bare without an hour hand accompanying it. File this one under "cool, but a bit confusing"
Stainless steel sports watch emphasizes water resistance
Luxury watchmaker Buler has announced the Sea Quest, a high-performance watch that can sustain water resistance up to 200 meters. There is a unidirectional rotating bezel to keep the gears working and a tight pressure-locking clasp on the wrist strap to ensure this device never leaves your hand unintentionally.
From its stainless steel exterior to the trio of small counters on the face, to the off-kilter date window on the 4:00 mark, this intense piece of wrist jewelry is designed for the rugged athletes out there who still want to show off some classy bling.
