Swiss watchmaker Glycine introduces the big AIRMAN 7 timepiece at the BaselWorld 2008.

the AIRMAN 7 models by Glycine are very big (53 x 53mm without crown). Three independent movements combined in one watch need their space. Glycine’s new watches prove that largeness does not necessarily have to mean a lot of weight. Thanks to the high quality materials titanium and carbon fibre, the round AIRMAN 7 and the square AIRMAN 7 Plaza Mayor weigh about a quarter to a third less than their predecessors.

The Glycine AIRMAN Chrono 08 displays three time zones and has an integrated chronograph.

the 24-hour rotating bezel which is a novelty for Glycine as it lies under the sapphire glass: it is separated into a lower white part for the day and an upper black part for the night. Thanks to the protection provided by the crystal, it was possible to use luminous material, like on the dial. This makes the third time zone luminescent, too. The rotating bezel can be adjusted with the screw down crown at 8 o’clock.

Hamilton introduced the dramatic X-Copter wristwatch at the BaselWorld 2008. The 44mm Hamilton X-Copter takes inspiration from helicopter flying. It actually features practical Fahrenheit/Celsius temperature converter and ‘ascends’ to a Maximum Take-off Weight (M.T.O.W.) calculator.

The bezel bears fine markings indicating compass bearings, temperature scales and seconds - cockpit style. These are contrasted with easily visible key numbers for rapid orientation, assisted by the pointed arrow hands showing the way. Orange touches add dynamism and are reminiscent of helicopter navigation. There is even a bold letter ‘H’ at 6 o’clock – the ultimate miniaturized ‘helipad’ – and a cut out propeller at the rear of the case to reveal the automatic ‘motor’ at work.

Besides the Tag Heuer Formula 1 Grande Date Kimi Räikkönen limited edition , Tag Heuer also introduced a special edition Tag Heuer Formula 1 Grande Date Indy 500 at the BaselWorld 2008.

The Tag Heuer Formula 1 Grande Date Indy 500 features polished bezel with authentic Indy 500 sports tachymeter scale. The pearled dial in black gold or silver plate also sports the Indy 500 logo.

Tag Heuer announced a new special edition Tag Heuer Formula 1 Grande Date in honor of current Formula One champion Kimi Räikkönen.

Breitling gives its Cockpit and Cockpit Lady models a whole new face by redesigning their dials at the BaselWorld 2008.

The new Breitling Cockpit watches are available in a broad choice of metals, dial colors and wristband types (bracelets or leather straps), the Cockpit and Cockpit Lady models will appeal to all those who do not necessarily need a chronograph, but are looking for an elegant, sturdy and reliable watch in the grand tradition of Breitling wrist instruments.

Breitling introduces at the BaselWorld the new Breitling Chrono-Matic 49.

In 1969 Breitling creates the first selfwinding chronograph movement. This major invention was to enable the development of a whole range of chronographs named Chrono-Matic, forerunners of the current vogue for extremely large-sized watches, and featuring an original and distinctive appearance.
The new 49 mm-diameter Chrono-Matic 49 is inspired by the generous volumes of the original model and by its modern design with unmistakable Sixties and Seventies accents including taut, angular lines and geometrical rectilinear hands with a square base or arrow tip.

Tag Heuer introduces a new Formula 1 wristwatch at the BaselWorld 2008. The Tag Heuer Formula 1 Grande Date features an oversized 44mm case.

The Tag Heuer Formula 1 Grande Date is going to be available in 5 colors. The black model (photo) features black titanium carbide-coated case, bezel, crown, pushbuttons, black dial and rubber strap.

Casio unveils the Oceanus Cachalot solar powered and radio controlled watch for water sports.

The Casio Oceanus Cachalot comes in black (OCW-P500TDJ-1A1JF ) and grey (OCW-P500TDJ-1A2JF). Features of the new Casio watch include hardened surfaces, yachting timer, tough solar, world timer with 27 world cities and time sync 6 times per day.

Besides the BR 01 Grande Complication Bell & Ross has two more very exciting new watches announced for the BaselWorld 2008.

The Bell & Ross BR GRAND MINUTEUR (photo) has a mechanical movement with manual winding. The case measures 44x50mm. The glass bead is blasted titanium covered with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) - virtually unscratchable coating (4,000 vickers).
