The Baselworld 2010 is opening today in Switzerland. We have already reported about tons of new watches that will be exhibited at the Baselworld this year. Tag Heuer's new watches and especially new concept watches are every year a highlight.

Believe it or not, even an industry that attracts millionaires and a customer base that would seem to be able to weather economic storms, watch and jewelry sales are hurt by recessions. That was one of the key comments made in an opening press conference for the Baselworld trade show that opened today in Switzerland.

New version of 2009 DualTow enhances view of inner movement, adds all-black design

French watchmaker Christophe Claret has unveiled a revised version of the DualTow NightEagle that came out to the market last year. It is aesthetically pretty much the same device, except this version has an all-black coloring and more transparent casing to show off the inner workings of this hand-wound watch.

Bonhams announces the sale of the ‘Haslinger Collection’ of fine and rare Heuer watches on Wednesday 15 December at Bonhams New Bond Street, London. These 81 watches in the collection represent the ‘best of the best’ which is why TAG Heuer is to showcase highlights of them as part of their anniversary celebrations. The watches range in value from £1,500 to £15,000.
TAG Heuer has also created a unique watch especially for this auction. It is based on the newly launched Silverstone model and the dial will incorporate Jack Heuer’s signature, a true one-off for the discerning collector. All proceeds will be donated to the Green Cross International charity. Arno Haslinger will also donate his original Silverstone to be auctioned for this cause and Bonhams will add a further 20% to the hammer price and an additional £5,000 in support of the charity.

Small family-owned watch company Ora reveals first Baselworld display

The Ora Swiss Watch Company, a small outfit located in northern Switzerland, has revealed the Ora #1 watch, a unique box-shaped device with an extremely decorative case of titanium and sapphire.

For the first time, Kyocera's "created ruby" product will be used in a wristwatch.

Casio and Kyocera together have announced that Casio will release a limited-edition watch under its highest-end MR-G line that uses Kyocera's recrystallized ruby. That technology had previous only been used in "traditional jewelry applications" (bracelets, necklaces, etc).
