Baselworld 2010: Kyocera's Recrystallized Ruby Used In A Watch For the first time, Kyocera's "created ruby" product will be used in a wristwatch.

Casio and Kyocera together have announced that Casio will release a limited-edition watch under its highest-end MR-G line that uses Kyocera's recrystallized ruby. That technology had previous only been used in "traditional jewelry applications" (bracelets, necklaces, etc).

The watch will contain 4.85 carats of the Kyocera product. No pricing was announced, but given the price range of other MR-G devices the watch will most likely be around $1,500 to $2,000.

In a press release, Kyocera said it "will utilize the know-how accumulated in the 35-years of experience since the creation of our recrystallized gemstones to expand the business beyond jewelry and build a pillar for business in diverse decorative material applications." .

This timepiece is slated to be on display at the Baselworld trade show in Switzerland later this month. Keep checking back to Wrist Dreams for the latest previews and news from the show.
