Baswelworld 2010: Pontos Décentrique Phases de Lune Independent watchmaker Maurice Lacroix to unveil "phases of the moon" watch.
Make no doubt about it. Baselworld, one of the largest watch-and-jewelry trade shows in the world, is on its way. Previews of the latest new watches have already begun to stream in through the PR wires. Take a look at the Pontos Décentrique Phases de Lune from Switzerland-based watchmaker Maurice Lacroix.

This uniquely-designed watch has an off-center dial to the left and a black-and-white representation of the sky to the right. For its namesake ("Phases de Lune" is French for "phases of the moon"), this mechanical display changes based on the position of the moon. At 10:00, 4:00, and 6:00, the watch alters its display, corresponding to the appropriate lunar times. Clearly this is an elegant watch with a highly creative concept - creating different displays for each phase of the moon. Is it niche? You bet. That's probably why Maurice Lacroix, which is one of the few independent high-class watch manufacturers out there, has limited production of this model to just 500.
