Baselworld 2010: Project Z6 Harry Winston watch features exclusive material and hand-wound alarm setting

Harry Winston Inc, the famous jeweller based out of 5th Avenue in New York City, is known for its watches that emplore sophisticated mechanical workings over newer, glitzy technology. The Project Z6 is no exception. Featuring 45 jewels and a zalium case (a zarconium alloy exclusive to Harry Winston), the main draw to this piece is its 24-hour alarm setting.

Specifically developed for this limited-edition watch, the alarm dial is hand-wound and there is a monobloc bell located underneath the face. A small switch next to the alarm setting allows users to toggle the alarm between on and off. While a simple electronic alarm would have been easy and cheap to add to this watch, Harry Winston went for a much more complex and vintage technology. That in and of itself is quite a marvel, and quite unlike anything else you can find in the wristwatch market today. And despite its lack of high-tech innards, expect this device to sell at a pretty penny during its highly limited production run of 300 units.

This timepiece is slated to be showcased at next month's Baselworld convention in Switzerland. Keep checking back to Wrist Dreams for the latest previews and news from the show.
