Two days ago I reported on a watch that keeps you healthy, but what about a watch that allows doctors to make an instant diagnoses for diseases such as malaria and meningitis? It might sound kind of strange but it's true. The Cambridge based nanotechnology firm Akubio, received a £826,000 Government grant for their innovative new portable and low-cost, rapid-response disease diagnosis device. "Substantially different from other diagnostic devices that require the use of expensive chemicals to enable disease detection, the new device utilises the quartz crystal element from a simple wristwatch and can be powered by standard batteries, enabling doctors to make instant and accurate diagnoses from samples."
