For all of those who say wristwatches are worthless now that we have cell phones, try telling it to Bonhams and Goodman who just sold a watch for $65,000 at a fine jewelry sale in Sydney Australia. Two weeks ago a 1943 Rolex 3525 Oyster Chronograph was put up for auction with an initial estimate of $30,000 but the bidding soon got out of control and reached the price of $65,000.

What generated such passion was the unique nature of the item. The Rolex was a famous "prisoner of war" model which had been purchased by C. J. Nutting, a corporal in the British army, while he was imprisoned in Stalag Luft 3 in Poland, the setting for the film The Great Escape.
