Radiation Detection Wrist Watch

I4U reported about the VigiWatch Radiation Detection Wrist Watch in January 2003. The VigiWatch home page is not reachable anymore but the Radiation Detection Wrist Watch is available on a couple of small sites on the web. The lowest price we found is at Laurus Systems. The Smart Watch ICW001

The Smart Watch (ICW001) can communicate and transfer data to and from a mobile phone, PDA or PC via IrDA or the included communications cable. The 256-color LCD display can show images. There is also a melody player to store small tunes. The 256-color display has a 72x64 pixel resolution. It has a 128kb storage. This Wrist Watch is more cool to look at than really useful.

Seiko Phatch Bluetooth Watch not a New Thing

Update:
Fossil Releases Bluetooth Watches in US Rumor surfaced on a bluetooth enabled Wrist Watch, apparently in development by Seiko. Story and photo originated at WastedBrain.com. Lots of other sites like Engadget and Gizmodo picked up the story. Seiko actually already showed a bluetooth enabled Wrist Watch in 2001 and again in 2003. I cannot find a source other than WastedBrain for the new Seiko bluetooth Watch Photo. See below a photo from the 2001 version. IXI a maker of wireless device infrastructures has a press-release in 2003 describing a bluetooth enabled Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII) Wrist Watch. So far I would say the Seiko Bluetooth is comparable with the Samsung Wrist Phone story. Those Gadgets surface every other year and somehow never become reality. |

TTE's (Think the Earth) first project the wn-1 earth wrist watch, is the world's first Earth-shaped watch that rotates on its own axis. Manufactured by TTE corporate partner Seiko Instruments Inc. wn-1 indicates time with an earth-dial (a dome-shaped 24-hour hand), a position indicator, and a minute hand. The hours are read counterclockwise one revolution per 24 hours, the minutes clockwise; there is no second hand. I think this watch is extremly cool and out there. Think the Earth (TTE) wn-1. |

Here we have a technology wrist watch that takes the fun out of fishing. The Hummingbird SmartCast Fish Finder Watch uses a floating sonar sensor attached to the fishing line (it weighs about 1 oz.) and has an operating radius of 75’, transmitting real-time views of fish to the display unit you wear like a watch. The sensor reads water depth up to 100’ with a 90° sonar beam to find the sport where fish hide. All controls are operated from the one-touch wrist unit, including the fish proximity alarm, sensitivity level, depth range, and fish identifier. Swatch introduces funny Wrist Watch with kamasutra bunnies. I don't know if this Watch is rated R for sexual content. Bunnysutra is a Swatch Touch with a male and female white rabbit. A tap on the watch glass proposes a different “happy bunny position” each time. It is selling for $55 in the Swatch Online Store. The site warns that demand is high for this watch and the wait could be long. It already catches over $170 on eBay. Swatch has right now a giant Bunnysutra billboard on Time Square in New York. First Wrist Watch TV Review

I4U just published a review of the NHJ wrist watch TV VTV-101.
Quote: The TV unit itself measures 48x48x18mm and weighs 50g (my measurements), making it the smallest TV I have ever seen. The TV display itself measures 1.5" diagonal. Set button displays the current channel in the time display. With the arrow buttons I now can change the channels. The first good reception I got on channel 26. I was amazed how "watch-able" TV is on this post stamp size display. It really works well. The display is sharp. Text displayed is readable. The colors are vivid. Crazy and Unique Japanese Watches

TokyoFlash a japanese online store, features a Unique collection of Wrist Watches.
The designs of some of them are just crazy and push the definition of how to show time. The one in the photo is called "Pimp". The time is displayed in 3 colors. The left side represents the hours and can be read by looking at the digits to the left of them. The minutes are displayed in 12 rows of 5, in green, yellow, and red, with each row representing 5 minutes, each light representing a minute. To count the minutes after 15 minutes it is easiest to start by looking at the competed red row(s) and then start counting from there. Each completed red row is a 15, 30, 45, 60 minute indicator. Does not get more complicated to read time, but it definitly looks cool and for $129.00 this is an affordable head-turner. Check out the TokyoFlash Store for more out-there wrist watches. Porsche Design announced a futuristic chronograph with combined mechanical-digital chronometer display - The Porsche Design Indicator.
The idea to develop the Porsche Design super-chronograph was born as early as the end of 2000 by Eterna’s CEO Ernst F. Seyr. The design of the watch is in line with the spectacular new Porsche Carrera GT. The mechanical high-end watch is able to display as it shows stopped time intervals up to nine hours and 59 minutes in large digits. Besides the stop function it also features a power reserve indicator. It uses a slightly curved 42 mm sapphire crystal for dramatic dial display. The price is said to be 65,000Euros. Seiko launches Wired XYZ Futuristic Watches

Seiko introduced a new Line of futuristic looking Wrist Watches under the Wired Brand.
The Seiko Wired XYZ watches was presented at the Baselworld 2004 Wrist Watch Show. Hoshina Ichiro led the design of the XYZ series. BoA a japanese idol promotes the XYZ line in Japan. There are four models in the XYZ line. Two with digital display and two with chronograph display. The Watches sell around $150 and will hit the japanese market May 21st. The Samsung Wrist Phone Story

Question, Where is the Samsung Wrist Phone? Last time we heard about this wrist phone was at CeBit 2003, where press-release was saying it will start selling in Europe Q4 2003. Now its Q2 2004 and I cannot find any evidence that it is selling anywhere. So looks like the only Wrist Phone on the market is the NTT Wristomo.
The story of the Samsung Wrist phone goes back to 2000. Back then they said that it will be available by the end of the year in the US. Well it did not happen as we know. If you know of another Wrist Phone that is actually on the market please email us. |

Austrian Watch Company Laks offers new MP3 Player Wrist Watch.
Laks has launched a USB Flash Drive Wrist Watch last year. We actually had the chance to review the Laks USB Memory Watch. The Memory Watch is also OEMed by BMW. Now Laks takes this concept further and is releasing in March 2004 a Wrist Watch with MP3 Player functionality. The Laks Memory Music comes in 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, 256MB versions. It supports MP3, WMA and ADPCM music formats. Music is uploaded through a USB 1.1 interface. The MP3 Watch has a built-in microphone for voice-recording. The lithium battery charges within 1.5hours and play-time is 4-5hours. The watch dial has little led indicators that indicate Equalizer settings and other MP3 functions. TV Wrist Watch NHJ VTV-101 hits Japanese Market

We reported about the NHJ TV Wrist Watch the first time last October. The Wrist TV showed up also at the CES 2004 in January.
Now NHJ is set to ship the VTV-101 TV Wrist Watch beginning of May in Japan for 19,800yen ($185). The VTV-101 Wrist Watch TV features a 1.5" color TFT screen (280x220 pixels). It measures 45.7x18.2x49.4mm and weighs 55g. It uses the Sony TV receiver chipset and can receive channels VHF1-12 and UHF13-62. The Watch also has a Time display above the 22.2x29.5mm TV screen. Seiko sold between 1982 and 1985 a TV Wrist Watch. They stopped developing it which is a shame. Some devices are still on the market and are traded on ebay or in discussion forums. Casio championed lately the digital Camera on the Wrist. Its maybe time again to tackle the TV on the Wrist.
